*Near to the door*
*he paused to stand*
*as he took his class ring*
*off her hand*
*all who were watching*
*did not speak*
*as a silent tear*
*ran down his cheek*
*and through his mind*
*the memories ran*
*of the moments they walked*
*and ran in the sand hand in hand*
*but now her eyes were so terribly cold*
*for he would never again*
*have her to hold*
*they watched in silence*
*as he bent near*
*and whispered the words...*
*"I Love You" in her ear*
*he touched her face and started to cry*
*as he put on his ring and wanted to die*
*and just then the wind began to blow*
*as they lowered her casket*
*into the snow...*
*this is what happens*
*to men alive...*
*when friends let friends...*
*drink and drive*

Someone found this poem and asked me to put it up on this site, and I was more than happy to do so. I'd like to remind everyone here, and please remind other people of this, or even go as far as to send this poem to them,  DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE. Lives are lost, hearts are broken, memories are shattered and people are left without a sister; brother; son; daughter; neice; nephew; grandchild; boyfriend; girlfriend; and best friend each day.

Each day the world is deprived of one more person who could've done wonderful things. They could've become mothers, fathers, aunts, uncles, teachers, doctors, or even volunteered their time to retirement homes. They might've joined the Salvation Army, a local hospice or hospital, or even just been a good friend to the people around them. They will never be able to do that, and they may never be able to have dreams again, because one person decided to have a drink before they drove.

Please keep this in mind next time you're driving, or you know someone who will be at a party and driving home. Tell them this, make them think of the consequences before they go out. If everyone is aware, then maybe one morning, someone will still be able to wake up to their mother, go and visit their brother, or go to the movies with their best friend once more.
