Barbara Klare has been in the software industry for over twenty years. After graduating from Oberlin College with a degree in Geology and Art History, she worked as a programmer for British Petroleum. In 1990, she switched to technical writing, and has taken post-graduate classes at SF State University in Business and Technical Writing. She also has extensive experience in book production and design, graphics, and textiles.

She shares the N. California STC award for the IslandTable manual with another writer.
