Though the weather was cool, the racing action was
hot at the Lake Moc-A-Tek Speedway. Larry Hendershot picked up his first
win in three seasons in the Sportsman feature while Phil Retter picked up
his first ever Lake Moc-A-Tek feature win in Street Stock action. Point
runner-up Franklin Bush won his fourth Pure Stock featue while Davie
Franek won his third Micro Sprint feature of the 2001 racing season.
For Hensershot, his first win in three seasons was a hard-earned
victory. Though he started on the front row and led all the way,
Hendershot had to work for the win. Over eh closing stages of the
feature, Alex Konopka applied heavy pressure to Hendershot, but could not
find a way past the Hendershot Racing #29. Konopka challenged him all
the way but could not find a way past and settled for a second place
finish, equaling his seasons best. Rocky Rosetti finished third ahead of
Brad Grammes and Ed Strada Jr. Tom Laner Jr., Brian Malcom, Bob
Grammes, Joey Grammes, and Kevin Kresge completed the top ten.
The Street Stock feature saw a new face in victory lane as
"Racer
X", Phil Retter, drove his #44 to his first ever victory at Lake
Moc-A-Tek. Retter and Glenn Buchannon battled for the top spot for
several laps before Retter was able to pull out a lead over he closing
laps to win. Buchannon finished in the runner-up position for the second
consecutive week with Jack Zeiner Jr. crossing the line in third. Tom
Herman and Chris Hunsinger completed the top five. Nil DiBlasi Jr., Bill
Rosengrant, Ed Kudrako, Bill Saxe, and Ken Hineline completed the top
ten.
In Pure Stock action, Belvedere, NJ's Franklin Bush picked up his
fourth victory of the season. Fourteen year old Michael Lartz chased him
all the way, but could not find a way past and settled for a career best
second place finish. Jim Balutis, Floys Schmidt, and Gary Schoch
completed the top five. Eric Schmidt, Jay Martin, Don Leiper, Kyle
Shoemaker, and Ron Blake made up the rest of the top ten.
Micro Sprint racing action found Davie Franek picking up his
third
feature win of the 2001 season. The talented young teenager grabbed the
lead just past halfway as he slipped past leader Mike Keppler on a
restart. Keppler suffered mechanical problems shortly thereafter and
retired from the event. From this point Franek was not challenged and
went on to victory. Pat Potter crossed the line second with Ed Krupa
finishing third. Jason Frantz and Ralph Utter Jr. completed the top
five. Don Colaluce, Michael Pierre, John Hagen, Kevin Horton, and Brian
