PBS
Online Resources
Many media sites have
links to educational resources. PBS is an excellent
example of a media Website which has links useful to
educators. In this Weekly Website I have extracted some
educational links from PBS and WHYY-TV12 Philadelphia's
Web pages. In addition I have included some other media
links including: television, radio, newspaper and
magazine and journal links. See the Film:
An Engaging Learning
Tool Weekly Website for
links connecting the classroom and course content to
media resources!
PBS
is an excellent resource for connecting media and
instruction. One of the great ways they use the web is to
link additional resources -- transcripts of interviews,
resources guides, communication forums and artifacts -- from
their television programs to their website. For instance,
when you are watching one of their programs, such as Nova,
the website address will appear on the screen when a
particular topic is mentioned or an additional resource is
available on-line.
The site contains useful
sites for teachers and fun educational sites for kids. In
fact, PBS is currently designing a site just for K-12
teachers, so keep checking online! Here are a few links I
pulled from the PBS site which you may find especially
helpful in your classroom, school, or cluster.
- PBS
Teacher Connex: Each month,
Teacher Connex provides teachers with timely information
about PBS general-audience and children's programming and
information regarding extended videotaping rights for
classroom use in the U.S. The site includes program
descriptions, grade level appropriateness,
cross-curricular applications, teacher resources and
links to relevant World Wide Web sites. Also, there are
opportunities for teachers to interact by
email!
- History's
Best on PBS: Explore a
range of topics in American and World History and learn
about programming that can that be useful in your
classroom!
- Online
Teacher's Guide:
PBS Online's many educational resources are classroom
guides developed specifically for teachers. Link to the
following curriculum areas.
- PBS
Kids: This colorful,
kid-friendly site links kids to their favorite PBS shows
and characters and links kids to games, riddles, and
other fun activities!
WHYY-TV12
