Grndhog's Camping Story

My story Starts on Wed. Aug.11,1999 ,at Prince Galitzen(Crooked Run
Campground) Everything went well on Wed & Thurs.We went swimming &
Shooting & Enjoyed some Great Camp cooking. On Friday Morning My
girlfriend left for home for a Prior engagement & I was there alone. I
cleaned up around camp after she left Made some Lunch & went for a Swim. I got back to camp at about 3 pm., took a Shower & relaxed a Bit. The
winds had started to blow a Bit & that felt Great . Then I started to
hear Thunder in the Distance & thought I'd better make some Dinner.
After finishing heating up some Chili I proceeded to Put some things in
the tent cause they were forcasting some Severe Thunderstorms...I was
sitting in the tent & it Started to rain harder & harder , Winds REALLY
Picked up & All of the sudden Outta No WhereThe winds Really went
Berzerk & Blew Down Trees & thats when I saw on My little TV about
Tornado warnings & ran for the bathrooms. As I ran to bathrooms for
Cover .I saw a tree Hit the campsite Right next to me & demolish a tent
of Two Guys that had just Got there about an hour & half earlier. They
both ran as I was. After things calmed down I went back to My camp to
find my Dining canopy was destryoed & a Tree right through Midddle of
Camp. Needless to say I packed up & Left two days early. The next day I saw in the paper that a camper was Killed by a tree At Crooked run, upon futher reading I discovered he was One of the Guys from the Site next to me. Sorta makes you stop & think......Don't it ?? Jeff Sides Ebensburg,Pa |
