Dawn of the Dead
copyright 1978
The sequel to Night of The Living Dead, George Romero's Dawn of the Dead has it all.  Zombies getting machetes to the head, a fat biker deciding to get his blood pressure checked in the last 10 seconds of his life, a zombie Hari Krishna, great Mall Muzak, exploding heads, drunken rednecks using zombies for target practice, and much much more.  But don't let me fool you, the movie isn't all blood and guts.

The plot, acting and character development is all top notch.  Considering the subject matter, it's something I wasn't expecting.  The film is about two SWAT team guys, Roger and Peter, who join up with Steve and Fran, a couple that works at a TV station.  Together, they try to find safety from the zombie invasion.  They find it in the form of the Monroeville Mall in Pennsylvania.  They have to kill a couple hundred of the walking dead and lock the doors, but they create a pretty nice little zombie free home.  All hell breaks loose when some crazy ass bikers show up, break in and let thousands of the undead in with them.  It's smart, funny and suspenseful all at the same time.  Check it out.

4 out of 5.
