The Frighteners
copyright 1996
Peter Jackson gets a big budget and help from Robert Zemeckis to make this sometimes comedy, sometimes horror.

Michael J. Fox stars as Frank Bannister, a guy who can see ghosts, and is actually friends with a few.  He and his dead buds trick townfolk into paying him to exorcise their homes.

One day, Bannister sees a number burned into a man's forehead.  He then watches a Grim Reaper type kill the man.  The rest of the movie is Frank being wrongly accused of more murders like this while trying to prevent them.  Jeffrey Combs from
Re-Animator shows up and almost steals the movie as a psycho FBI agent, R. Lee Ermey appears as the dead version of Gunnery Sgt. Hartmen from Full Metal Jacket and Dee Wallace Stone & Jake Busey play their usual crazy roles.  It all adds up to a good time for the viewer.

3.5 out of 5.  An offbeat, funny and suspenseful movie from old favorite Peter Jackson.  Check it out.
