Vincent Price teamed up with director Roger Corman for several movies based on Poe stories with mixed results. This is one of the better outings, even though it is a very loose adaptation.
Price is a Spanish nobleman named Nicholas who's wife has died under mysterious circumstances. Her brother comes to Nicholas' castle to find out what happened. He soon finds out that the dungeon is a torture chamber that has been used to kill thousands of people by Nicholas' father. The victims include his Nick's mother and uncle, who were screwing around behind Daddy's back.
Nicholas finally goes crazy and decides to use the torture chamber to its fullest extent and we get a great climax with the pendulum. Obviously, just about the entire movie has been written out of thin air, with only the last scenes coming from the original story. While the ending is the best part of the film, everything before that is worth watching for fans of classic horror films. Everyone else will find it boring and wonder why in the hell Vincent Price was allowed to star in so many movies.
