HISTORY OF THE TEMPLE

Throughout the course of history many great churches have been started by individuals and small groups. God has often used small groups to perpetrate his program of salvation to the masses. This is the Lord's doing and it is marvelous in our sight.

At an early age, Elder Roosevelt Fulton was called into the ministry. Although ordained for eleven years, he yet served faithfully under three pastors: Elder James Shaw, Elder Richard Ford and Elder Joe T. Gamble, at Nesmith Way of Cross Church. After waiting upon the Lord for direction, the Lord showed him a congregation awaiting for him. Thus, Evangelistic Temple Way of the Cross Church was founded nine years ago. There were ten pioneers of this great work which included: Elder Roosevelt Fulton, Pastor and his wife, Sis. Maggie Fulton; Deacon Moses Mckever and his wife Sis. Odessa Mckever; Minister Kelly Joe McMillian and his wife, Sis. Pearlie Mcmillan; Deacon Harry Brown and his wife, Sis. Laura Brown; Deacon Moodie Brown and his wife, Sis. Sharon Brown.

The Lord added to the church such as should be saved. On october 27, 1983 the church was charterd in the 56th Year of the Way of the Cross Church of Christ, International, with Bishop Eggleston, presiding Diocesan.

As time progressed, the Lord continuously blessed the work, in that many souls were healed, delivered, saved, baptized in Jesus name, and filled with the Holy Ghost. The Lord added to the church and met the needs of the people so bountifully that the building could hardly contain the people. Therefore there was a need for a larger building.

On August 10,1985 the Grounding Breaking and Site Dedication Ceremony was held at the corner of Eastland Avenue and Wilcox Street. The Foundation of our present building was laid that same year. Then in the fall of 1996 we held a victory march and procession from the old building to the new and present location.

We do remember our humble beginning and thank the Lord for where He has brought us. On April 21, 1990 our Cornerstone Laying and Dedication of the Educational Wing Ceremony was held in the name of our Lord Jesus.

The church's 23 rooms include the Main Sanctuary, Pastor's Study, Fellowship Hall, Minister's Suite, Nursery and host of other offices and rooms. The Lord has blessed us from ten pioneers to over 400 members.

The success of Evangelistic Temple Way of the Cross Church of Christ has been "Not by might, nor by power, but by the Spirit of the Lord," whom we give glory and honor.
