| The Magic Oak Tree Family or MOTF began in October 1968 at 39 The Oundle, Stevenage, in Hertfordshire, UK. It began with Pete Perry,(pictured) known to The Family as 'Uncle Pete', Roger Moores (known at the time as Dodger Gnome), George (Alan) Nash, (Known as Elfin George) and Philip Undrell (known as Pixie Phil). | daughters, Vivien and Debbie. Pete had been left to bring them up on his own when his first wife, Dorothy, died tragically in Blackpool, Lancs on 23rd June 1967. Pete and the lads made up an audio tape for them for Christmas. It told the story of Uncle Pete, and The Magic Oak Tree Gang, who lived at the bottom of Uncle Pete's garden, under a Magic Oak Tree! Because of Pete's open friendliness and his ability to listen to other peoples' problems, The 'Magic Oak Tree Gang' soon began to grow, with young people from all over Stevenage decending upon his house for his words of wisdom, and for the chance to play their records, which they could not do at their own houses. It was a girl called Teresa or Terri as she liked to be known, who first dubbed the fraternity 'The Family', when she said, 'we are more than just friends, because we share each others thoughts and problems. we are more like a Family, - so why don't we call ourselves The Magic Oak Tree Family?' That is how the MOTF finally came into being, - and it has been growing ever since, regardless of Nationality, age, skin colour, religion or whatever category our Society may 'pigeonhole' you into. When The Family first began in 1968, the local press were amazed to find Hippies, Mods and Rockers, and ordinary teenagers all sitting and chatting together at Pete's house, and listening to each others music. There really are no boundaries in The Family, - all are welcome, as long as you care about others, about the world about you and about the very planet that gave us life. We are striving for a world where human beings respect the planet and other forms of life, as well as our own, and a world in which trust reigns supreme, and where there is no room for war. In a phrase, we want to TURN THE WHOLE WORLD INTO ONE BIG HAPPY FAMILY - now is that too much to ask for? |
