Organizational meeting - Women On Wheels

May 15, 1999

The second meeting of our new and still unnamed and unchartered chapter of Women on Wheels was held today, Saturday, May 15, 1999 at Keif's Reef in Burton Bridge, IL. Keif's Reef located at 3505 S. Wright in Burtons Bridge off of Route 176.
You can join us at 11 am the third Saturday of every month.

Three more were added to our number today. We seem to be attracting some real quality ladies. Betty Bachorek, Sue McDonald and Char Gordon couldn't make the meeting today but we did have some new comers. Suzanne and I welcomed Debby Krause, Barb Thurow and Martha Alexander.

Suzanne was proud to show us her brand spankin new Women On Wheels membership card. Betty and Martha are already members and Debby is working on it.

We discussed the many events that are available this summer in our area and around the country. We again talked about the Bikers Against Cancer being held on August 22. Debby is also a member of the McHenry County Hog Chapter which are the group who are responsible for the Bikers Against Cancer run.

We also talked about what we expected from this group and I believe everyone is for the idea of taking it slow but will be interested in organizing our own run at a later date, perhaps next summer, to benefit a womens group. A few of the organizations that were mentioned were Home of the Sparrow and Pads.

We discussed taking some day rides. Galena and Starved Rock State Park seemed to be well received as well as the old standby, Lake Geneva. We want to be sure to get together for a ride before our next meeting.

Be sure to check out the picture taken at this meeting.

On April 25th a few of us did attend the Woodstock Swap. I found some useful items. Char and her husband had a booth there and were selling parts. Sue, Suzanne and Ralph and I met at Rushmore Inn for the Blessing of the Bikes. We took a little run to Lake Geneva afterwards. It was a very nice day.

It looks like the number of us who will take part in the Bikers Against Cancer on August 22, 1999 is growing. It is a 100 mile observation run with a poker hand at the end . See the events page for details.

We also talked about the Route 66 The Mother Road Ride/Rally® being held on June 12-19, 1999. If you are at all interested in this ride then go to their site right away. You can still register but time is short.
