This
Essay explain the imprtance of the IT for Jordan:
" Recognising the positive impact that
Information technology (IT) has had on the different economies
of the world and the realisation that IT would enable developing
economies to leapfrog through many of the hurdles and challenges
that the industrialised nations faced in the past. It became
clear that in order to succeed in its mission; it was vital
for Jordan to have a modern and highly active Information
Technology sector that would act as the new and strategic
lifeline of the economy.
The Royal Court's official and direct involvement with the
IT sector came when King Abdullah issued directives to the
private sector to formulate a realistic strategy and action
plan that would launch Jordan's Information Technology sector.
The result was the REACH initiative.
King Abdullah Immediately endorsed the REACH initiative
and instructed the government to begin studying and in fact
implementing the recommendations that REACH had proposed.
King Abdullah has been personally monitoring the progress
of the initiative and has been dynamically active in his
support for both efforts of the government and the private
sector.
On the 24th of March 2000, king Abdullah issued personal
invitations to the heads of IT organisations all over the
world in an effort to acquaint them with the local IT community
and their efforts in building Jordan's IT sector. The Forum
resulted in successfully placing Jordan on the world's IT
map in addition to other tangible benefits such as the signing
of Joint Ventures and the formation and contribution to
venture capital funds along with certification and training
programs at universities.
Moreover, the Economic Consultative Council, headed by his
Majesty, has formed numerous committees to study and submit
recommendations to the government on how to facilitate the
sector's growth. Whether it is in the field of education,
commerce, e-government, capital markets or any other area
that contributes to the sector's development.
Furthermore, the Royal Court, upon His Majesty's instructions,
plays an instrumental role in directing and advising international
investors and project developers in the kingdom, follows
up on all of King Abdullah's meetings abroad promoting the
industry and acts as the primary mechanism in which his
majesty is about to follow up on the sector's development.
