A diamond shines beneath the clay
A gem of untold worth
Its facets wrought from time and space
Since timing of its birth
Upon the earth's great continent
A fragile soul is born
It flourishes within the soil
'Til by the deluge torn
A sweeping wave of life begins
Upon this rocky sea
Its purest heart, beset, besieged
By pain and misery
Who can blame the fragile heart
Who caves beneath its wake?
Who can grant its happiness,
Its life and soul to take?
Hang on, to those dear memories
Which make you smile and nod
Think of the goodness of that gem
And give the rest to God.
(To my sister, Erin, and her family.)
