Vanity

What pleasures hath the pathway wrought
The bounty of Life's treasures sought
The madness of the world exploding
How to cope with truths unfolding
Brief glimpses of your sanity

Nights of passion, moonlight falling
Wasted days of youth are calling
Time has robbed you of the presence
Of forgotton youthful essence
Age has crushed your vanity

What scene awaits you down the road
What will it take to ease your load
What lessons have you yet to learn
What passion bids your heart return
 With an eternal flame?

Right the wrongs as best you can
Face the future with a plan
You must agree the past is gone
Repent your sins, they are your own
You must accept the blame

Lasting mem'ries hold a fragment
Of the youth-filled day's enchantment
What remains is understanding
Truth unveiled, and not withstanding
It is up to you.

When the sorrow pulls you under
Stumbling o'er your feet, you blunder
At the Savior's feet, recant it
Ask for mercy, it is granted
If your heart is true.
