Upon The Great Titanic

My lover said we'd sail away
Upon a ship gigantic
So on a venture we embarked
Upon the great Titanic

Disaster struck upon the course
Of Life's uncharted sea
Batten down the hatches, boys
Prepare for misery

And when the grinding thunder stopped
Its anger fully spent
The vessel now the worse for wear
The hull was badly rent

The davits that secured the boats
Were empty on their posts
And untold scores of searching eyes
Portrayed untimely ghosts

The bells of Death's prophetic toll
By silence then was followed
The last remaining precious lives
By icy seas were swallowed

What whisper echoes thoughts of man
When he be faced with death?
What words of wisdom can be found
Within his dying breath?

The untold secrets of the past
The hidden, silent womb
The key unlocks, the captive freed
Now silenced in the tomb

What was the life presented by
This mortal's journey spent?
What lifetime full of promises
What message has it sent?

Was it for countries conquered by
The kings of history?
Or was its simple song unheard,
An untold mystery

Be captain of your ship, my friend
And steer a course that's true
Destined to a misty shore
Your mates will follow you

Wisely choose the crew aboard
Keep patience in your sights
And when you reach that distant shore
You'll find the harbor lights

My lover said we'd sail away
Upon a ship gigantic
So on a venture we embarked
Upon the great Titanic
