GOD’S ABUNDANCE
Today’s Scripture: Acts 11:25-30
Today’s Verse: “The disciples, each according to his ability, decided to provide help for the brothers living in Judea.“ – Acts 11:29 (NIV)
“John, my friend and yours, doesn’t have enough money to go home to Vietnam to see his family and his fiancée. Will you consider donating a few bucks to help him buy a plane ticket?”
What better way to end a sermon on money than to take an offering? Nevertheless, I was skeptical: after all, I was speaking to a group of college students at the end of a semester. Even if they emptied their pockets, would it be enough? It sure would look bad if we fell way short, after I’d spent the evening exhorting these students to give freely because God would always provide in abundance.
I finished my talk before the cup had had time to circulate through the audience. After a few hymns, I asked one of the student leaders to count the money. Incredibly, we had raised $2300! John was able to go home for the holidays, and support a needy friend of his. And all of us who gave that night got to participate in God’s abundance.
