FAITHFUL TO HIS CALLING
Today’s Scripture: Acts 13:1-5
Today’s Verse: “While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, ‘Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.’" – Acts 13:2 (NIV)
I couldn’t help but tear up as I read the pastor’s farewell letter. Only in his mid-fifties, he was in the advanced stages of a deadly cancer, and his time on this earth was running out. And yet, he wrote with great contentment, glad that he had obeyed God’s call to go into the ministry, and glad that he was soon going home.
I thought about this man’s life. He was a very intelligent and articulate person, who could’ve been successful at anything in life. But he remained true to his calling, faithfully preaching God’s word to his congregation for over two decades.
What about his current situation? Why, he could’ve ministered for at least another decade or two. How frustrating it must have been for him to realize he was dying so young. But there wasn’t a trace of frustration in his letter, only contentment.
Would I be as faithful as this pastor to accept God’s calling in my life? And would I be as faithful to accept when it was time to go?
