LET IT BE HOT
Today’s Scripture: Acts 14:21-28
Today’s Verse: "’We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God,’ they said.” – Acts 14:22b (NIV)
Do you know the secret to eating spicy foods? The next time you’re about to bite into a jalapeno pepper or a curry meat morsel, say to yourself, “Let it be hot.” That’s right, rather than fighting the heat by stressing out or drowning your meal in ice water, let your mouth feel the burn. After a while, your mouth will get used to the spiciness, and as a bonus, you’ll get to experience all of the rich flavors in your food.
Hardships can be overcome in the same manner. We worry too much that something bad is going to happen to us, and when it does, we worry some more. Paul and Barnabas knew a better way. Expect hardship, they told the disciples. It’s part of the journey.
When hardships come, if we “let it be hot,” not only will we get through them, but we’ll get to experience all of the rich flavors that God is giving us through these hardships.
