The Education of Little Tree

Choose ONE of the following activities (You must complete parts a & b of the one you choose.)::

1.  a.  The education that is described in this novel is not the traditional standard education for young people.  What is necessary for a good education?  Do you think that Little Tree's education would meet the requirements for a "good education?"  Write a one-page essay discussing this. 
b.  If you were a parent, what would you consider the ideal education for your child?  What would you want your child to learn?  Who would do the teaching?  What methods would be used?  Prepare a tri-fold pamphlet summarizing your plan for your child's education.

2. a.   Carter discusses some medicinal & nutritional uses of plants native to Tennessee in Chapter 12.  Make a chart of at least 15 edible or medicinal wild plants in Georgia.  Describe where they may be found, what they look like, & their uses.
b.  Little Tree and his Grandfather often exhibit "Traditional Ecological Knowledge" in the novel.  Research TEK & describe 5 examples of indigenous peoples' contributions to science.
