Well done boys and coaches - you've all done Melita proud

  • Keep 23rd May 2004 free.  It's the day when His Excellency, the President of Malta, Dr. Edward Fenech Adami officially inaugurates the artificial turf pitches at Pembroke in the presence of numerous distinguished personalities.  After the opening, let's celebrate this momentous day in the history of Melita in your company at our annual one-day festival.  Pass the word around, and make sure that we will all be there to celebrate this event.

  • 29th April 2004. Congratulations to the Senior Squad for winning the Division Three Championship and promotion to Division Two having drawn against Fgura United in our last encounter 0-0.  The match was played at the Centenary Stadium in front of the largest crowd of supporters that ever watched Melita play.  Numerous boys from the nursery, parents, coaches, friends and others braved the cold wind on Thursday night to watch their favourites clinch the title after an impeccable performance throughout the season, ending their league commitments unbeaten with ten wins and five draws.  The first eleven team was made up of eight former nursery boys which goes to show that the seeds of our nursery's efforts are starting to reap rewards.  The Nursery Committee, Coaches, Parents and boys extend their congratulations to the President and Committee of the senior team, and to the coaches and players themselves.  WELL DONE MELITA.  Click here for photos of the support given to the first team, and to the celebrations which carried on well into the early hours of the following morning.

  • April 2004. Congratulations to the Under-19 squad for not only winning promotion to Section B but for also winning the Section C championship.  The following is a brief report of the match.

Melita FC. Under 19 team have been declared Champions of the MFA Youth Section C and promoted to Section B.  Melita had to win their last remaining game v Gzira United in order to clinch top spot since Msida St. Joseph were following in second place with only one point less.  It was a very tense affair with the Melita boys feeling the pressure in the first half. There was a certain apprehension evident in their play and although Melita dominated from the start, Gzira were very organised and fought hard.  Present at the ground were also the Msida players who came over to  encourage the Gzira boys and try to ruin Melita's chances.  But the great determination of the boys in red overcame all the odds and with a superb 2nd half display, managed to score two brilliant goals by Steve Magri and Edward Herrera to make sure of a great season for the Melita colours.

A very big WELL DONE to all the Under 19 players, coaches, committee members and the die-hard fans

  • 14th March 2004. The Under-14s were today crowned champions of the Youth FA Under-14 Section B League after beating Ghaxaq by four goals to nil.  Our Under-14 team is back next season where it belongs, in the highest section of Youth football for this age group.  With one game still to play, Melita Under-14 have won all their ten games played so far, an impeccable track record, to say the least.

Melita dominated this game right from the start, although it took us quite some time to break the ice.  A well taken left footed shot from ten meters by Steven Bonnici opened the score late in the first half.  In the second half, Melita dominated play completely, and three further goals from Rosaire Galea, Kane Micallef and Keith Sullivan sealed the game and the championship in favour of our team.  Our congratulations go to all the players for their dedication, hard work, and consistency of training and play, but one must also give praise to our most dedicated coaches, Chris Meli and Ray Cassar for building a team that must have been the envy of all our opposition.  Well done boys and coaches alike.  You've done Melita proud.  Click here for photos of the winning group and supporters.

  • 7th March 2004. The Under-16s today won another important league match against Hamrun Spartans by the odd goal in three.  Both goals were scored by Paul Rostkowski.  Regrettably, no match comments are available on this match.  Nonetheless, this is an important win which keeps our team in a comfortable place in the league table.  Well done boys and coaches.

  • 7th March 2004. Today it was the turn of the Under-8s to take part in the 2004 Melita Pringles Football Festival that was held on our new artificial turf pitches at Pembroke.  Melita were unlucky not to contest the final after having lost their chance to play in the final by the goals difference rule which favoured eventual Festival Winners, B'kara. Runners-Up Msida gave a very good performance throughout, losing the final to B'kara by two goals to nil.  Melita finished in third place after winning their play-off against Naxxar Lions.  B'Bugia got the better of Tarxien Rainbows to win 5th place.  Click here to see an enlarged photo of our young lads after the presentation of trophies and medals.  Well done boys and coaches.

  • 6th March 2004. The Under-9s today participated in the Melita Pringles Football Festival at our new artificial turf football pitches, finishing  Runners-Up, having lost the final to Floriana after the taking of penalties.  It was a keenly contested final and Melita only managed to squeeze a draw (1-1) with a few seconds of the final match remaining.  In the ensuing penalty shoot out, Floriana got the better of Melita after the taking of seven consecutive penalty shots.  Pembroke came third, followed by San Gwann, Sliema Wanderers, and finally St. Venera.  Well done boys and coaches.  Click here to see an enlarged photo of our players and coaches.
