About us.......

The 2nd U. S. Sharpshooters Co, B is a Western Region, N-SSA  team who's members are located in the greater Chicago land area, We take pride in representing one of the elite units of the Civil War era, who's marksmanship skills as a unit were 2nd to none. The 2007 season find the unit as a probationary unit in the North-South Skirmish Assn. The unit has until the close of the 2008 skirmish season to stand inspection at Ft. Shenandoah, outside of Winchester, Virginia. We also attend Regional skirmishes held in Illinois and Wisconsin which are posted on the Western Regions web page. We are always looking for people who enjoy the history of the Civil War and want more than "Living History or Re Enacting. We offer the opportunity to fire, in competition, the same weapons that were used during the Civil War. All the targeting we shoot at during   skirmishes are "breakable targets, like clay pigeons, ceramic tiles, and clay pots. Any one interested in joining the 2nd U.S. Sharpshooters are welcome to email Steve Renner our unit Commander .

The 1st & 2nd Berdan's Sharpshooters were the first U.S. regiments to make use of color for camouflage, even the brass buttons were replaced with black rubber buttons, as not to draw attention to the uniform. The favored rifle of the Unit was the Sharps 3 band

The use of specially fitted scoped muskets were not uncommon in the unit. The muskets were cased and hauled into battle by support wagons attached to the unit, the muskets weighted in at 32 pounds.
