Introduction
Throughout the West of Scotland the Republican movement and propaganda machine continues to grow rapidly and in doing so is destroying the Protestant culture from within our community.  However despite all the intimidation, threats and physical attacks by these republicans / nationalists The Wrangholm Defenders Flute Band, through being a close knit family band thrive to keep the protestant culture within our villages alive.
It is time for Protestants to make a stand.  We are being dictated to by a Westminster Government and Scottish Parliament which both have republican sympathies, local councils which are rotten to the core with corruption, jobs for the bhoys and republican views What about the Protestant faith where is our representation. This site is designed to promote these views  which may be oppressed by those named above but they cannot stop us expressing and promoting our views via this website.
History of the Wrangholm Defenders Flute Band
However the demise of the Newarthill Thistle flute Band was to the advantage of the neighbouring villages of Holytown and New Stevenston.
Wrangholm Defenders Flute Band was formed in September 1997 by ex members of the Newarthill Thistle flute Band. The demise of the Newarthill Thistle flute Band was a particularly hard blow for the area as the band was renowned for their musical talents and dedication to the cause.
The first band practice of the Wrangholm Defenders Flute Band took place in the New Stevenston Orange Hall, where our practices are still held. The first practice was attended by five people with an assortment of musical instruments !!!
These instruments, which are all, donated from very good friends of the band compromised of 3 side drums, which were about 15 years old, 2 flutes, which were also about 5 years old, and a bin for a base drum.
However from these humble beginnings the band went  from strength to strength with a steady increase in members from within the district of Holytown, Newarthill and New Stevenston.
At the first band practice there was a lengthy discussion in relation to the name of the band - with many suggestions  put forward. Some of these suggestions included  Carfin No Surrender  which would have enabled us to parade our colours through a village,  which is 99% republican, or New Stevenston Protestant Boys  which was vetoed as a founder member of the band was female. It was however concluded that the band should be named Wrangholm Defenders Flute Band.
This name derives from the big house called Wrangholm Hall, which sadly was demolished a few years ago to make way  for a housing estate. However the name is still well remembered within our area thanks to the Wrangholm Kirk  the local Church of Scotland,  the local juvenile lodge called Wrangholm Chosen Few and of course the  Wrangholm Defenders Flute Band who display the name with pride every time we parade.
From these humble beginnings the band paraded 5 months after being  formed. The first parade the band participated in was the Larkhall  Purple Heroes band competition when we won our first prize for best drum major on parade.  At  this time the bands uniform comprised of a black jacket and trousers  decorated with a light blue braiding very unflattering.
As time has progressed the band has gone from strength to strength. We currently have a band of 27 members comprising of 15 fluters, 6 side drummers, 3 bass drummers, 1 drum major and a bannerette carrier. We are very much a family band with generations of families within our ranks, which helps create a unique atmosphere around us.
Since our formation we have paraded with lodges from  surrounding areas  and others from further afield.  For the past 4 years we have paraded with the local ladies lodge
We make no claims of being the best band but we are good at what we  o. Primarily we are a loyalist blood and thunder band otherwise known as akick band however we do also participate in competitions and church parades.
