When 12 years old, Benjamin ran away from home, and went to Boston where he got on board a vessel and went to sleep. When he awoke he was out to sea. The vessel landed him at Annapolis, Nova Scotia where he was adopted and educated by a man. He died and was buried in the old historic burial ground at Annapolis, (Port Royal). After his death his widow lived with her two sons Charles and Benjamin alternately. She was an Episcopalian and when she died her son sent to Liverpool, Queen's County, Nova Scotia, for an Episcopalian clergyman to bury her.
