The day started out chilly but still the many loving volunteers braved the cold to help set up the tents, seating, flowers and unpack the 417 wreaths for Warriors Walk. Unlike 2007, the sky was blue and the air crisp as more than 150 family members and over 2,000 people packed the seating, to pay tribute to the 417 fallen heroes of the 3d Infantry Division. As the colors waved in the steady breeze, the Prayers, National Anthem and the poem was read. The words of MG Tony Cucolo, resounded of remembrance and gratitude, as tears flowed freely throughout the crowd. The wreaths were placed by the family and friends as hundreds lined the sidewalks of Warriors Walk. As the crowds dispersed and the tents and decorations came down, we thanked the volunteers for another memorable year. We walked the sidewalks, fixing the bows and straightening the wreaths and came upon a group of young men who just returned home. One young man with crutches near by, wept and kept asking why. For those we have lost and for those who have lost, let us never forget, this is why we do this.
