Finding articles on JSTOR

You may access JSTOR, a full-text database, from the computers at the Master's Program (as well as at the Smithsonian Libraries, the library at the Corcoran, the Library of Congress, George Washington University and other university libraries).  Unless you have dial-in access to a research library, you cannot access JSTOR from home.

Sample search from the Master's Program or Smithsonian computers:

In order to find the Pope-Hennessy article (Pope-Hennessy, John and Keith Christiansen.  "Secular Painting in Fifteenth-Century Tuscany: Birth Trays, Cassone Panels, and Portraits."  The Metropolitan Museum of Art Bulletin (Summer 1980).):

1.  Go to http://www.sil.si.edu/eresources/ed_index.cfm

2.  Click on the link to JSTOR

3.  From the JSTOR homepage, click on SEARCH

4.  For search terms, enter POPE-HENNESSY CASSONE; then click on SEARCH       (as Pope-Hennessy has authored many articles, adding "cassone"  will limit the results)

5.  The article will be the fifth down.  Click on the title link: "Secular Painting in 15th-Century Tuscany: Birth Trays,       Cassone Panels, and Portraits."

6.  You will then be able to read the entire 63-page article.  Turn the pages by clicking the NEXT PAGE or       PREVIOUS PAGE links.

Printing articles from JSTOR:

To print, click on the PRINT link at the very top of the page.

Saving articles from JSTOR:

To save the article on a USB key drive, click on the DOWNLOAD link at the very top of the page.  I recommend you download the document using the PDF format (either high quality or economy).  To save the document as a PDF file, right click the desired format and select "Save Target As.."(in Internet Explorer) or "Save Link As..."(in Firefox).  This will allow you to save the document on the computer's desktop.  Once saved on the desktop, you may then put the article on a USB key drive.
