Place in History - Manny Fernandez was one of major supporting characters of the late 70s and early 80s in a variety of companies between Texas and Florida. He was a brutal competitor with a reputation as a Vietnam vet and very good athlete. After a stint in the famed West Texas State football program, Fernandez hooked up with the Funks and was broken into the sport. He toured around as a rough n' tumble face and a roughneck heel, eventually finding his greatest success in Florida up through the Carolinas. He seemed to follow Dusty Rhodes who held him in high regard and always pushed him pretty well and he became a challenger to Harley Race's world championship. Fernandez became especially notable for having violent, bloody matches like Dusty and the two became a world championship tag team, until the "Raging Bull" turned on Rhodes. While the feud made him a heel, he never turned into a top tier heel and he basically became an upper midcard heel as part of Paul Jones' Army, teaming with a young Rick Rude. After that Fernandez hopped around, forming the Mexican Connection with Hector Guerrero in Memphis, working some bloodbaths in Puerto Rico and working independents up through the new millienium. A sadomasochistic tough guy who got far in his early days became a feared brawler in the middle of his career and is still going after leaving the limelight nearly two decades ago.
