Place in History - Marty Jones wasn't called "number one" and the "main man" for nothing. British wrestling is known for its excellent athleticism, slick matwork and a lot of hard strikes and big bumps, Marty Jones was as good at everyone of those characteristics as anyone. Like many of his collegues, Jones wasn't much to look at. His physique was average, his tights were ugly, he had a lazy eye and a side part in his hair, but he was a tremendous athelete who was a top flight worker in every sense. Once he'd established himself, Marty was a perenneal mid-heavyweight champion. The title was vacated by long-time holder "Mr. Wrestling" Mike Marino's death. Not just anyone could fill that void, but Marty did it and eclipsed it. His feuds with exceptional heels like Fit Finlay, Mark Rocco and the Dynamite Kid made for some of British wrestling's greatest matches. Jones was a key player in the height of British wrestling when "World of Sport" on ITV was a major deal. He worked opposite all the high-caliber heels from Fit Finlay to Giant Haystacks. Jones was also a man whose athletic style became integral to the British style that influenced many styles around the world despite the fact Jones never had runs in Japan, America or Mexico, his influence can be seen if you look closely enough.
