Place in History - Upon RINGS debut, Dick Vrij was quickly established as the group's premier striker. He was the one getting all the KOs, while most were getting submissions or TKOs. Vrij was made to be inept on the ground though and his matches played this part up. He was a top star for the inagural years and was Akira Maeda's fiercest rival. Maeda's well-rounded style pitted against the muscular Danish fighter's strikes made for some of the company's most intense battles. While Vrij was not as excellent at the worked shoot style as some, his strikes were as good as anybody's. He wisely stuck to kicks and knees and when in there with the best wrestlers Vrij was made to look like a killer. Dick Vrij stands out as the best pure striker the company ever utilized.
