EXPECTATIONS


ELEMENTARY GIFTED CONTINUATION CRITERIA

This document is signed by parent of entering gifted students and is on file in each student's gifted folder.


1. The student must maintain satisfactory performance in the core academic program (Reading, Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies).

a. First, Second, and Third Grades: Receive marks of "S" or better in each of the core academic subjects.

b. Fourth and Fifth Grades: Receive marks of 80 per cent or better in each of the core academic subjects.

2. The student must demonstrate satisfactory performance in the Target Program, as specified by the Overall Assessment portion of the gifted report card.

The academic performance of all gifted students is reviewed after each reporting period to determine eligibility for continued placement. Students who do not maintain satisfactory performance during any grading period will be placed on probation for the following grading period.

Parents will be notified in writing of this probation and invited to attend a conference to review student performance and develop an intervention plan.

Students on probation will continue to received gifted services. If continuation criteria are not met by the end of the following grading period, students will be ineligibile to receive gifted services unless extenuating circumstances for continuation can be documented.

After an eighteen week ineligibility period, parents may request program re-entry by completing the Gifted Re-entry Form, available from the Gifted Education Specialist at the local school.
