Writer Recommends
I cannot say how much the time that my readers spend with me means, nor the value of their opinions and input. I originally posted "Write" purely as a writer's exercise to get me over my nerves about other people seeing my work and to keep me motivated to produce on a regular basis. I was floored when people started contacting me to say that they had run across the site and enjoyed it enough to come back in the future. I am even more thrilled when my readers pass this site onto their friends. I would now like to pass the following onto you -
Tallah's Favorite Music - Gypsy Guitar - www.robbylongley.com
Lothlorien - yes, it's as beautiful as it sounds.
The Renaissance Flute - I have this downloaded onto my computer to listen to while I work. I haven't seen a website for this artist but the link goes directly to the mp3 site.
Indus Arthur - I no longer know where to obtain copies of Indus Arthur's music. If any of my readers know I would greatly appreciate the help!
Zen in the Art of Writing - Ray Bradbury - I don't need to tell you how good this is.
The Artist's Way - Julia Cameron - "A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity." I firmly believe that this 12-week course is essential work for anyone working, who wants to work in, or who has ever dreamed of working in the arts.
Conversations With Anne Rice - Michael H. Riley, Anne Rice - This very unusual book if full of information on the world of publishing from an ultimate insider. If you have question about how print publishing works this is a good place to start.
Anne Rice: Birth of the Vampire - As long as we're at it... Anne comes accross very well on video.
Guide to Manuscript Formats, The Writer's Digest - Dian Dincin Buchman, with Seli Groves - This is an essential guide for any new writer wishing to be published. It outlines the technical aspects of format and submission that editors and agents look for when they first receive your material.
How to Write and Sell Historical Fiction - Persia Woolley - Historical perspective can be difficult to write, especially when dealing with people who once lived or who are already legendary characters. Persia is a published author and here she helps to answer a lot of the "Should I?" questions that stump into writer's block.
Lord of the Rings - "Can you raise that bar a little higher please? I can still see it!" Few writers have touched as many people as Tolkien did with these four books. If I could only write so well... But anyway, there's a movie coming out and it looks as if they're getting it right!
Force of Hobbit - Oh, just one more!
A Field Guide to the Little People - Nancy Arrowsmith with George Moorse - This enchanting collection of information on elves, faerie, and more is worth the search, it's out of print and you'll need to use a book finder service. However, it's well-written, beautifully illustrated, and gives miles of inspiration for the fantasy author.
The First Elizabeth - Carolly Erickson - This tome on Elizabeth I of England is an excellent introduction to history that isn't dull and lifeless and a great read if you're interested in the English Renaissance or England's Tudor period.
Recently it was suggested that I ask my readers for Patronage, which is a very old system of supporting artists, musicians, and actors either financially of influentially, to help them make ends meet and to further their craft. I was not comfortable doing this, it wasn't what I posted the original site for and it's not what I posted the Archives for either. However, I did find that Barnes&Noble offers a commission on anything purchased using the Search you see below. It leads directly into their website, and should you be moved to purchase any of the recommended materials listed above I would be both comfortable and grateful. I thank you.
(Yes, that one... right above my head... Thank you!)
