It's Sunday and the sun is shining
I lie in the park alone, again
but the sun is warm and comforting
it makes me lie here and pretend
I pretend there is someone here
lying in the sun with me
as long as I can still pretend
I won't be alone, you see
A very pretty girl sits near to me
I do not even know her name
With just one glance from her eyes
the most savage beast would be tame
A very pretty girl sits near to me
Does she know I exist?
If I even spoke with her
Would she just resist?
She isn't dressed real fancy
Just blue jeans and a shirt
With just one little glance
She could heal a painful heart
There's a girl seated close to me
I do not know her name
But, since I have glanced at her
My life is not the same.
My problems are too much for me to bear
no matter where I turn they're there
early in the morning or in the evening late
they are still there planned or fate
Though I believe and trust in you
there is noting you can do
so, I will not bother you with my own
'cause I must solve them all alone
my mind is cluttered with worry and fear
I pray someone soon will draw near
to help me end my daily strife
and make for me a better life
Still, my problems I cannot reveal
All my worries I must conceal
so, I've decided to sit alone
and solve my problems on my own
You promised to love me
but you shot me down.
You promised to respect me
Now I look like a clown
You promised to be true
but you cheated, and then
You promised to leave
but you came back again
You promised to write me
but I didn't get a letter
you promised you'd wait
but I know better.
And I promise you this
it's not much I know
I think I've decided
to just let you go
You promised to marry me
but you're still not my wife
you promised to care for me
Now get out of my life.
Now our love is over
and believe me it's through
And I promise you this
I want no more of you
You made so many promises
not one did you keep
and when you're gone, girl
I will not weep
Not one little tear
Shall fall from my eyes
I'm just so damn tired
of hearing your lies.
Because of your promises
A lesson I'll learn
and I promise, my dear
I'll never return
A new love I'll meet
she'll make promises, too
but believe me my dear
hers will come true.
Are you a writer of poetry?
Do you write in rhyme?
Do you drink gin and tonic
with a splash of lime?
Are you a reader of poetry?
Do you read in verse?
Is your vocabulary complete
or do you have to curse?
Are you a publisher of poetry?
Do you publish books?
Then, I think you should wait
It's my works you've overlooked.
I want someone I know not who
for all I know it could be you
it could be you or her or either
and for all I know it could be neither
I would my love offer to you
if I were sure you wouldn't make me blue
I think that I could love you madly
if you didn't treat me badly
Yet I know you'll never be mine
you probably think I'm feeding you a line
and when I tell you I love you
you just don't realize that it's true
A platonic love is all it will ever be
I love you but not the same as you love me
I guess friendship in a weird and funny game
I'd like to say a love affair, but that's not it's name
if I could only portray to you
exactly what I wanted to
there's no doubt in my mind
you would see I am your kind
even though a love I've lost
I'd gamble on you regardless of cost
so someday when I say I love you
you will know that I really do.
In the loneliness of my room
In the confines of my tomb
I feel just like and unborn child
Safe within my mother's womb
I've sailed around the world
not for pleasure, but for peace
constantly praying
that all wars will cease
I've met a lot of people
in may different lands
I've spoken words of peace
and shaken many hands
Excuses for wars
seem awfully lame
when we realize that people
by and large are the same
I pray for the day
that all wars will cease
then, I can cruise the seas
for pleasure in peace
