Spring Is Here! And I Can't Find Anything!

“Spring, and a young man’s fancy lightly turns to thoughts of love.” Well, Ain’t that special! My thoughts are more turning to “Where the hell did I pack away the summer stuff?” I go through this every year and don’t bother suggesting that I put them in the same place each time. That would be no challenge at all!

I used to put the summer stuff in the attic. Until I heard the family of squirrels romping about there. I could picture the carnage! They would eat all of my favorite tops and then have their babies in the wreck of my swimsuits. Not that I ever put it in the same place in the attic anyway. I like to see things change around a bit to sort of celebrate the passage of time. It’s a big attic and the front half of it is even finished. That’s where my Troll keeps his trains. Doesn’t do anything else with them, just keeps them. In 24 years I remember him setting them up exactly ONCE!!! The trains live in the front room in the attic, and they are good tenants. No big drunken parties, no illegal activities, no noise. Absolutely Nothing!

The back of the attic is not finished and it is a little better now that we have put a new roof on this barn. We even went as far as putting siding on this dump. I was not really excited about that. The Troll let me pick the colors-------Whoopie! I really wanted a deep cobalt blue and chromium yellow trim. Do you think they had that? Of course not! I had to settle for a sort of pale Wedgewood Blue and Cream trim. If you look at my house from the street it looks so respectable and even staid. I told the Troll that we could have saved a couple of bucks and just got a big neon sign that says; “REPUBLICANS LIVE HERE.” It could flash on and off too. I am not a Republican,,,,,yet. I am a “Flaming Liberal” and the Troll is one of the Republicans that votes for whoever he likes.

I don’t know if I can possibly describe what the barn looked like before? Let’s just say that if the door opened and 3 pigs and a bunch of chickens came out, you wouldn’t have been surprised. Now? Well, I have compared it to putting an old whore into a Vera Wang Wedding Dress.

So all this gussied up business has got me in a fix. I don’t know for sure where I put the warm weather stuff. I can find some things in one of the spare dressers but it’s not the stuff that I really liked. (That’s why I didn’t take a whole lot of time looking for a place for it to go dormant.) Last year when I did track it down, I also found a large box of winter stuff too.

Some of it still had tags on it. You know when you see something that really appeals to you and it’s on sale because it the end of the season? You buy it and you put it away so you will have some nice stuff to start the season with. And if you are like me, you put it away so WELL…….. It’s a nice surprise though. I had completely forgotten most of the stuff I got such a great bargain on. I would love to be able to plead senility on this, but I can’t remember when I didn’t do it.

Every single year I say the same thing, “I’ve GOT to get ORGANIZED!” Of course I don’t believe anything I say, I know that I am full of ‘it’. The Troll just laughs when he sees me going through the many boxes and bags. He knows what I am doing and he knows that I won’t admit that I don’t have a clue where I put stuff last year. He puts his things away with no help from me. Which is why he can find the stuff every time. He still has some disco shirts and bell bottom jeans which he doesn’t wear. I have asked him if he is planning on starting up his own ‘Poor Taste’ museum.

I am so bad at where I put stuff that I have bought the same things at least twice. I have a huge number of color markers. I just found a set that I think I bought a couple of years ago. They would have been really great when they were new….before they dried up.

I found three bottles of shampoo and two bottles of conditioner that I put away. I don’t recognize the brand. It must have been a bargain for me to buy all that. I even found the shower curtains I bought about 6 months ago. I found them the day after I bought some other new ones. Which I put away, under the towels that I also bought to match them. See, that’s the trick to it. When you can’t find the one you KNOW you have, buy another one and it will turn up. The good thing is that you always have a spare-----------Somewhere.

I think this year I am going to do things a bit differently. Instead of putting the winter stuff away when the temperature has remained over 85 degrees for at least three weeks, I’m going to leave it in the drawers and the closets. Where will I put the summer stuff? I’m just going to leave it under the bed, in the old suitcases--------WHERE I JUST FOUND IT!!!!
