Marilyn Manson. N'Sync. Hanson. We are constantly bombarded with sounds and images of these pop stars. The music industry, as it has become, force feeds us with these corporate creations. They bring good quarterly sales and promote a flighty evolution of styles. They are everywhere you look. But, for good music, you have to search a bit harder. Mark Mulcahy was formerly a member of a band called Miracle Legion. Based in Connecticut, they nearly broke into the national market with good reviews from Rolling Stone magazine and a couple near hits. The band has since broken up, but Mulcahy still tours regularly. The International Travel Club had the rare luck of seeing him play in London, England last year. Several members of the club caught him again playing several weeks ago at the Buttonwood Tree, in Middletown, CT. His most recent album, Fathering is loaded with...songs you've never heard of. But, they are honest songs with human emotions. Having performed all of the instruments and singing on the album himself, he is getting great reviews of this album. For those of you who know the band Radiohead, their singer Thom Yorke refers to Mark Mulcahy as "a genius." The album is definitely not your every day music. But that only means that your days are not fully open to good music. Back to Reviews page Ryan's Writings main page |
