A great movie. An awesome performance. An inspirational, touching story. Patch Adams has everything needed to be a classic. The movie is based on the true story of "Patch" Adams(played by Robin Williams), a man who wanted to help people. At the beginning of the story he commits himself to a psychiatric ward because he is suicidal. After connecting with some of the other patients in the ward, and becoming disillusioned with the methods of the doctors there, he decides to go to school to become a doctor himself. He enters Virginia University Medical School, and keeps his grade among the top in his class. He annoys his classmates with his bad study habits, but breaks school rules by delighting all of the hospital patients with his humor and charm. The movie has some parts that are laugh out loud hilarious, but never goes very near the border line of becoming stupid. It has a tragically sad twist, but it doesn't turn into a sob story. Robin Williams keeps the mood light and easy, but the powerful message of the movie is not lost in pointless humor or pathetic melodrama. It is strengthened by great acting and believable characters.
