"Simply Developmental"
by
Ryan Cofrancesco

The child wants to play.
He does not want to sit or stay.
But, the father's hair is turning gray
With every time he turns away.

It is only simple math,
If you want to avoid my wrath
Stay focused on your path
Or you'll have to take a bath!
Sit still. Concentrate.
Do it while I wait!
It doesn't matter what you hate!
I control your fate!

I feel a need to be free!
But you never understand me!
I just want to watch some TV
Like my best friend Stevey.

I don't even want to start!
I'm angry; I feel it in my heart
You're not even very smart -
Nothing but a big old fart!

Way down deep, son
I wish you had more fun.
But, you're still a bit too young
To gladly get this rote work done.

If I only I could share
What's behind my cold stare,
I'd pound and punch and tear
And make a big mess everywhere!

But there will be a time when
You let me be your good friend.
I will be patient until then
And I know this work is not the end.
