Matchbox Twenty
From the Past to the Present:
To start off Rob, Paul, and Brian were in a band in Florida called Tabitha's Secret (along with 2 other guys).  The 3 musketeers set off on a journey that would lead them to many great things.  They hooked up with Kyle Cook and Adam Gaynor and found a producer, Matt Serletic which landed them a contract with Atlantic Records.  Matchbox Twenty was born.

1996 --
The band released "Yourself or Someone Like You" in October

1997 --
In April "Push" was released and the video became a hit on MTV
In June the album was certified gold and they set off on their summer tour
In July the album was certified platinum and "Push" topped the charts
In August "Push" hit the Top 40
In September the album was certified 2x platinum and "Push" hit the Top 10
In November the album was certified 3x platinum and "3 AM" hit the Top 40

1998 --
In January the band was nominated for 2 American Music Awards for Favorite Pop/Rock Album and Favorite New Artist.  The album was certified 4x platinum and Rolling Stone readers named them Best New Band.  "3 AM" hit Top 10.
In February the band was nominated for a Grammy for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals and "Push" was certified 5x platinum.
In May "Real World" hit the Top 40
In June the album was certified 6x platinum.
In July "Real World" hit the Top 10.
In August "Push" became a big deal with feminist groups
In September the band was nominated for 2 MTV Video Music Awards for Best Group Video and Viewer's Choice.  The album was certified 7x platinum.
In October "Back 2 Good" hit the Top 40
In November the band took hom 2 Billboard Music Video Awards

1999 --
In January the band was nominated for an American Music Award for Favorite Pop/Rock Band Duo/Group.
In February the album was certified 8x platinum.
In May Rob shared the Pop Songwriter award with Mariah Carey and Sarah McLachlan.
In July Rob worked with Santana on the "Supernatural" album with the track "Smooth" which also hit Top 40
In September "Smooth" hit Top 10
In October "Smooth" hit #1.  The album, YOSLY, was certified 10x platinum and "Smooth" topped the Billboard Adult Top 40 for 25 weeks.
In November "Smooth" was certified platinum and topped Billboard Hot 100 Singles Airplay charts for 5 weeks, the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Sales for 2 weeks and the Billboard Top 40 Track charts for 10 weeks.
Rob was named one of People Magazine's 50 Most Beautiful People.

2000 --
In February Rob wins 3 Grammies for Record of the Year, Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals along with Santana, and Song of the Year with Itaal Shur (all for "Smooth").
In March the album, YOSLY, was certified 11x platinum and the band released their sophomore album, "Mad Season."
In April "Bent" hit the Top 40 and the band changed their name from Matchbox 20 to Matchbox Twenty.
In June "Mad Season" was certified 2x platinum.  "Bent" hit the Top 10 and the album topped the Billboard Internet Album Sales for 1 week.
In July "Bent" topped the Billboard Adult Top 40 for 13 weeks and the Billboard Hot 100 for 1 week.
In August "Bent" hit #1 and it was certified gold.
In October "If You're Gone" hit the Top 40 and they began their U.S. tour.
In November "If You're Gone" hit the Top 10.
In December they won the Artist of The Year In Rock On the Net's Poll and "If You're Gone" hit #1 on the Billboard Adult charts for 13 weeks.

2001 --
In January the album, MS, was certified 3x platinum
In February Rob was nominated for a Grammy for Best Rock Song for "Bent" and the band was nominated for the Best Rock Album for "Mad Season." 
In April the single "Mad Season" hit the Top 40.
In June the single "Mad Season" hit the Top 10.
In July the band went on tour with Train as their opening act.
In October "If You're Gone" hit top of the Billboard Adult Contemporary charts for 2 weeks.  YOSLY was certified 12x platinum and MS was certified 4x platinum.  "Last Beautiful Girl" hit the Top 40.
In December "If You're Gone" topped the Billboard Year-End Charts as the Top Hot Adult Top 40 Artist and with Top Hot Adult Top 40 Track.

2002 --
In May "If You're Gone" was named Song of the Year at the BMI Pop Awards.
In October "Disease" hit the Top 40.
In November the band released their third album, "More Than You Think You Are."
In December "Disease" hit the Top 10.
