Life & Death

  We begin our lives
  In Darkness,

  Alone,
  Frightened,
  Vulnerable

  Knowing nothing
  But the
  Gentle rhythm
  Of a
  Heartbeat.

  We are spat
  Forth
  Into this
  World

  Out first shock
  Is large
  Two-armed
  Creatures
  Grasping us,
  Holding us.

  Supporting us.

  Some of the
  Fear dissolves
  As we sleep
  In our Mother's
  Arms.

  We are no longer
  Alone.

  Life has begun.

  We quickly learn
  To cling
  To others

  An emotional
  Umbilical.

  We begin to feel
  Love

  That all-encompassing
  Emotion

  Without which
  We are
  Hopeless

  Alone,
  Frightened,
  Vulnerable.

  Everything we
  Need is just
  A tear
  Away.

  The lifeline
  Grows stronger
  As we
  Evolve.

  From infant
  To child.

  From child
  To awkward
  Stumbling
  Teen.

  Suddenly,
  Our very bodies
  Have begun
  A revolution

  Hormones raging,
  Fighting for
  An elusive
  Goal --

  Adulthood.

  We break free,
  Stretching the
  Bonds

  Of child to
  Parent

  And parent to
  Child.

  Learning to cope
  On our own

  Independence.

  We grow older,
  Inching closer
  To yet
  Another step.

  We evolve
  Further --

  Finding ourselves,
  Shrugging off
  Our old
  Selves

  Seeking a new
  Identity.

  The cycle
  Repeats

  As we
  Procreate.

  Seeing ourselves
  In our children

  Feeling the same
  Emotions

  Through the
  Buffer of
  Years.

  We rush towards
  The twilight
  Of our days
  On Earth.

  Growing older,
  Growing wiser,
  Growing.

  Until we reach
  The final
  Scene...

  And the
  Curtain closes
  On our
  Last
  Performance.
