Split-second Society

I was flipping through
Channels one day,
And I was suddenly
Struck with a
Thought.

What ever happened to
Concentrating on one
Thing for more than
A few milliseconds?

Attention spans now
Measure in the nanoseconds,

As we spend little time
With one thing before
Moving on,

And on...

We flip through hundreds
Of channels to find something
Of interest,

And the sum of the parts becomes
Much less than the whole.

Each person we see becomes a
Little more meaningless as

We are assaulted with
Machine gun frames of a
Video with split-second
Flashes of a pouting female,

And a glimpse of the band.

Nothing seems to matter anymore,
As our attention spans shrink,
And our stress level grows.

Everyone has become so desensitized
As they forget how to feel,
They grab the remote and
Flip to the next image.

Each person we see isn't worth
A moment of our time,
Each life we see only for
A few seconds...

And they die a split-second
Death.

Murder-Rape-Robbery-Sex-Violence-Birth-Death
We see it all in a heartbeat.
