Strikes/Stand Up
-Circle drill to opponent’s jab hand; parry jab & step in perpendicular to opponent to clench
-Jab, cross, hook, knee, knee
-Opponent push kicks: parry, round kick to leg, grab neck & knee
-Jab, cross, uppercut, round kick to leg
Throws/Takedowns
-Tai Otoshi: leg posterior (can step backwards to throw) (can lift elbow to accomplish same throw)
-Harai goshi: leg anterior, pull towards your body
-Uchimata: leg between opponent’s legs (can grab belt), can use to counter single leg)
-Double lapel throw: drop to knees, choke
Side Mount (Includes: Kesa, HH, Reverse Kesa)
-Kesa: Opponent hooks leg; grab leg, other arm around neck, grab thighs, body crank
-HH: Opponent locks hands around waist; step over body, arm bar
-HH: Opponent grabs waist; go to reverse Kesa, hook leg with yours, shoulder crank
-HH: Opponent brings knees forward; jump to squat, knee bar or foot lock
Escapes from Guard
-Roll over shoulder footward, leg lock
-Hip sideways & footward to Boston crab - twist ankle
Leg Techniques
-Opponent figure fours legs while ankle locking; foot lock to counter (turn to side)
-In side mount: trap leg, bridge & turn to side, pull leg to knee bar
-Standing inside open guard: apply hand on shin ankle lock, kick opponent’s back & take to Boston crab
-Standing in closed guard: allow opponent to trip you backwards, turn sideways to ankle lock
Escapes from Arm Bar
-Push top leg over your head & bridge to trap, push bottom leg between legs & pop over to side mount (or just grab ankle and ankle lock)
Guard
-Opponent stands: master grip around ankle, push with knees, reverse ankle twist
-Grab both lapels with cross grip, knee in chest, sternum crank
-Start triangle but grab ankle (can choke with under grip), kick out knee, triangle
-Reach around neck and grab both sleeves, double sleeve choke
Guard Reversals
-Opponent grabs belt; sit up & bear hug, sweep to mount
-Opponent stands, drop legs & hook opponent’s legs, grab lapel, sweep to mount
Mount
-Opponent pushes knee to go to guard; downward shoulder crank
-Arm bar resistance: underhook opponent’s leg, push neck with leg, arm bar (or pass to knee bar)
-Knee to head, swivel leg around head, Russian arm bar
-Arm bar with shin in neck, throw other leg over neck, choke/arm bar
Turtle/KK (Knee-to-Knee)
-Attempting rear naked choke from back: push head & go to arm bar
-Chicken wing & grab back lapel, grab collar & roll to choke
-KK: grab collar, reach around arm & forward roll to hangman’s choke
-Opponent flattens out; grab both lapels under arms, jump side-to-side, pull to headward hold down
Miscellaneous Escapes
-Escape mount: opponent posts leg, push ankle & go to guard (or underhook leg & turn to guard)
-Escape knee in stomach: push ankle & go to half guard
Counters
-To Uchimata: crotch lift to slam or post leg & take backwards
-To triangle: hike between legs
-To chicken wing: grab shoulder with both hands, push down & choke from behind
-To guard arm bar: grab back of knee with hand & pass to side mount
Weapons Defense
-Club: outside block to hip toss
