About the West Side Church of Christ

line

It is our aim as a local body of believers in Jesus to be a part of the church He built that we read about in the pages of the New Testament.
Therefore we use as our only guide in matters pertaining to faith and practice the Bible! (2 Timothy 3:16,17, John 17:17)
We believe that what was necessary in becoming a Christian or member of the early church should be all that is necessary today. We do not believe that any person must submit to or confess anything extra or less than what the apostles in the early chapters of the Book of Acts taught.
In striving to be simply members of that church, we at West side believe a few characteristics are necessary:
  1. We believe that the gospel of Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 15:1-4) is first and foremost a message of good news. The messages and songs and prayers that we offer bring for the most part a positive message of Christ's love. The gospel is the answer for the world's hurts and therefore Christ's church must preach that healing message of Christ. (Romans 1:16)
  2. We believe that the church should be more about Christ and less about any other group or individual. Jesus is the reason that we are called out of the world and into God's family. (Ephesians 1:3-7) Every member is encouraged to be committed to Jesus Christ above anyone or anything else.
  3. We believe that the church should operate as a family and serve as a group who can encourage, challenge and nurture one another. We strive at West side to build each other up and never tear others down.
  4. We believe that the Bible is a book that speaks to the needs of the 21st century man and woman. We firmly hold to the truth that it is inspired by God and therefore authored by the One who knows each one of us best.
  5. We believe that each member should always be seeking the truth regardless of the source. We do not ask anyone to believe or not believe something because someone said it, but base their belief on whether or not it is in agreement with the Bible.
  6. We believe that every member is special in the eyes of God and therefore special in the eyes of the church family. With this in mind, every member has unique qualities to help the church serve the Lord in this area.
  7. We believe that the church must seek to offer assistance to the community around us just as Jesus did when he walked on this earth.
  8. Our plea to the people around us is not for them to follow us, but for them to join us as we follow Jesus. We do not ask people to learn from us, but to come with us as we learn from Jesus. We do not invite people to become West Side Church of Christ Christians, but to become simply Christians and be added to the church of Christ. (See Acts 2:36-47)
