Personally I like Jpeg picture format best at the regular pixels /psi because *.bmp doesn't always work on the web and when they do, they tend to be slow in loading. *.Gif images which is by far the most used, and tend many times to be just as good as *.jpg images, but at other times can be unreliable in keeping their coloring as seen above. Having a lower or higher resolution tends to distort the original image, although the higher resolution does make things clearer although much smaller.
