WSTTA Coach - Mr Johnny Zhou

Mr Johnny Zhou started playing table tennis at the age of nine. He was sent to the China Guangdong province table tennis team when he was thirteen years old and at the age of twenty-one, he was selected into the China national table tennis team representing his country to visit Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Japan, Sweden, Poland, Denmark, Iceland and Russia. He was the central part of the Guangdong province team. In 1973, he came third in the Chinese National Championship team event and fifth in the mens doubles. In 1975, he became the Chinese National Area Championship team and mens singles events title holders. In 1973, he represented China to compete in the European Championship and came second in the team event and third in the mixed doubles.

In 1977, he left the team because of injury and started his coaching career in the China Guangdong province team. During this period, he had coached the world champion, Mr. Jiang Jialiang. In 1979, he moved to Guangzhou and took on the role as a professional coach, and had coached and developed a lot of young talents, including the world mens doubles champion, Mr. Lin Zhigang. Johnny was recognised and awarded as a high level coach in China.

In 1987, he moved to Australia to further his study and at the same time coached in NSW. In 1988, he won the Australian Championship mens doubles title, and as a coach, had trained numerous Australian junior and youth champions. He was honoured and awarded by Table Tennis Australia as an Oceania level 3 international coach.

As to raise the standard of table tennis in Australia, he had been actively participating in the coaching role in Wah Sing Table Tennis Academy since the club formation in 1994.
