Day 3: Monterey Bay Blues Festival

Entrance to Kalisa's in 87 I woke up this mornig and went out to the rock again near the Point Pinos Lighthouse for about an hour before Cindy woke up.It was going to be another nice day as it was clear sky and seemed warmer then it did yesterday at about 5:00 a.m. This morning we ate a champagne brunch at the Wharehouse on Cannery Row. They serve a good assortment of food including desserts buffet-style. It seemed a little expensive at the time but the food was worth it. This is about two blocks up from Cannery Rowand have to walk down some steps to go in the restaurant. There's a huge sign on the building--so you can't miss it. The Wharehouse is also a nightclub on the weekends, with rock music downstairs and folk or comedy on the main floor.

.

We left to go to the festival again today. They had Dorothy Moore, Johnny Otis and Gladys Knight on the main stage which is where we spent most of the afternoon. It was hot today, about 85 and if you left your seat there would not be a place to sit later. I wasn't real impressed with Dorothy Moore as she is still known for 'Misty Blue'. Johnny Otis was better after that but everybody had been waiting for Gladys. Once she started playing her 60's R&B hits, everybody got excited and there was a lot dancing in the crowd. It seemed as if the crowd had been waiting for some enthusiasm all day and they received it when she came on to party. She had lost some of her voice with age but was still putting all her effort into the music. She played for about 80 minutes before ending the festival around 5:00. I walked away from the festival with mixed opinions. I was glad to have attended it to see what it was like, but I could probably get just as good a music at the Bumbershoot in Seattle. I wished they would of had more 'old Chicago-style blues' but it was still fun to go in the nice weather. I would recommend it to anybody who likes Rhythm and Blues.

Sandgirl in Carmel in 80's Sunset at Carmel BeachWe drove into town and walked into some of the studios in Carmel. This area is also well know for art galleries as there are many artisit who live in this vicinity. We did this for about an hour before getting hungry and stopping at the Forge in the Forest Restaurant for dinner. We ate outside on their large patio next to an open firepit. We left to go to the beach around 7:30 for the sunset as they have some of the nicest sunsets on the coast of California. Tonight's was no exception. We went to O'Kane's afterwards to listen to some comedy. It was good entertainment for tonight as we were tired of music.

We drove 50 miles today. 250 miles total
