Day 7: Napa, Sonoma & Timber Cove

We woke up later than usual and went to eat breakfast, and then we went to the mall where we bought some books and clothes. We deceided to take some backroads into Sonoma as we would be driving to the Ocean again today. Hills of Napa We made reservations for tonight at the Timber Cove Inn which is north of San Francisco. The backroad went over some hills and would eventually take us into Sonoma. We found some nice homes and vinyards up in the hills where you really felt like you were out in the country away from the commercialization of Napa and Sonoma. We had never been up here befoe but wer impressed with the great scenery.

After driving in the hills for an hour we dropped down onto a road that took us to the Petrefied Forest and then into Sonoma. This is a little town that does not have quite the glamour that Napa does but they still do grow grapes and make wine here. The Smothers Brothers have a winery here. We drive around town for a little while before continuing west towards the coast. We will take Highway 116 into Petaluma and then drive over to Jenner which is a small town on the coast.

We arrive in Jenner at around 3:00 and will check into Timber Cove Inn. This is a hotel and restaurent that overlooks the ocean. The place is different as it tries to portray an isolated atmosphere. We get into the room and it is European designed, meaning that the shower is not enclosed and is open to the front room. It has a fire place and balcony with a hot tub that over looks the ocean. It is a nice room but is rather expensive at $175 for one night. We decide to stay for one night just for the idea and see how romantic it is. We bring up a couple of bottles of V. Sattui wine with some sandwiches we had bought before coming here. We planned on staying in the room and using the hot tub most of the day. The showers are not a bad idea as it takes up less space and would be nice in a master bedroom. There is no reason to enclose the shower unless your worrried what your spouse or roomate may see.

We decide to go out and use the hot tob that is outside and overlooks the ocean. We both get in and stay in for about an hour when we start to hear some noises on top of the roof. I get up to take a look and something runs away. I thought it must be my imaginaton so I get back in the tub. View of Ocean out of TimberCove The next thing I know there is a racoon that is in our room and made a mess of our sandwiches. There is a divider that separates our balcony from the next one and they would go underneath that to get into the entrance of the balcony sliding door. While they made off with our dinner we had wine and cheeze-its for dinner. The sunset was nice and the view was great and the surrounding was good and the racoon even gave a little bit of wilderness to the area. I was glad we came here once but I woudln't come back again because it was to expensive.

We drove 250 miles today. 1550 total
