The Dragon Prince
Once upon a time, there was a queen named Une who wanted a child. A fairy named Noin went up to her and said, "Eat the red apple for a boy. Eat the green apple for a girl. On no account, should you eat both apples."
Unfortunately, the queen had two personalities. One personality ate the red while the other, not remembering that the red apple had already been eaten, ate the green. The result after the requisite nine months was a dragon Treize and Une decided to name Wufei.
This would have been an unmitigated disaster except the dragon was excellent at repelling invaders and bandits and other bad influences from the kingdom with his lovely knack at cursing and creating flames.
Finally, however, they had to get him a wife. The first wife was Dorothy, but she left in a huff after his breath set her eyebrows on fire. The second wife was Meiran, who promptly tried to slay the dragon in a fit of bravery. She was sent home.
Finally, Treize and Une decided to get him a peasant woman since no kingdom would throw a fit if she were set on fire or eaten or whatever troubles dragons cause.
The peasant woman they chose was a local healer named Sally. Upon hearing the news, she immediately called up her best friend Noin the fairy for help. "What should I do?" said Sally. "It seems I have to marry a dragon. Can you help me out?"
"Wear 13 skirts. When he tells you to take off your skirt, you tell him to take off his skin. He has several layers of skin that'll come off. By the time you reach the last skirt, he will be a quivering mass of flesh, utterly helpless. You must then take a big wooden hammer and keep smacking him on the closest appendage that resembles his head," said Noin, handing her big wooden hammer and a jar of ointment. "You rub this all over him and wrap him in a sheet and in the morning, he should become a normal human being."
"That sounds pretty violent."
"It's a magic fairytale thing. I promise you, he won't feel a thing in the morning," said Noin.
After they were married, Sally did as Noin advised, taking off a skirt for every layer of scales he took off. In the morning, lo and behold, the dragon was now a beautiful young prince with several lumps on his head, cursing about fairies and their cures for enchantments.
Sally decided to whip up some headache medicine.
