~COLONY THEATRE- MARIETTA, OH~
The Hippodrome in historic downtown Marietta, Ohio, opened to the public on May 9th, 1919 with a seating capacity of 1,200. It was Marietta's number-one amusement palace. In 1949 the new owners of the Hippodrome, Shea Theatres of New York, changed the name to “The Colony Theatre.”

From 1975 to 1989, the Colony changed hands several times. In February 15th, 1981, Marjorie Bee, who had worked at the theatre since 1968, purchased the Colony, making her the theatre's first local owner. Due to high bills to keep it open, Bee was forced to close its doors in December 1985.

In 1989, Dan Stephan Sr., a local businessman, bought the theatre in hopes to restore it someday. Today, the HIPPODROME/COLONY HISTORICAL THEATRE ASSOCIATION is endeavoring to restore the Colony Theatre to its former state. It's now closed. It is said they are striving to have it completed by the end of 2008.

In its prime, the Colony's stage was graced by some of America's most famous entertainers, politicians and other celebrities. Some of its guests included horror film star Boris Karloff, Frank Sinatra, Mary Pickford, Jimmy Stewart, Judy Garland, Rock Hudson, Dick Van Patten, Tex Ritter, Minnie Pearl, Kitty Wells, Ernest Tubb, Randy Travis and many more.

Many have felt Shae's presence still at the theatre, along with some other spirit activity.
