In response to the September 11th World trade Center disaster, Wallwe County residents, as an outpouring of their love, thoughts and prayers, sent a gift to the City of New York to be presented to city officials.
The 39-inch concrete statue, named "Silent hero" was painted to resemble a New York firefighter and mounted on a 22-inch pedestal, which proudly displays the lone star of Texas. Plaques on the statue contain the Fireman's Motto and a commemorative message from citizen through Waller County.
September 20, 2001, at 9a.m., the general public, along with EMS personnel and city and county officials, gathered at the Waller County Courthouse for a brief program, followed by the send-off at the county fairgrounds.
Fernando Gomes, General Manager of Frazier's Ornamental Concrete and two Waller county emergency response personnel, Billy Stark and Michael Minor, transported the statue to the stricken city.
