A Probate Record for William Stewart is found in Book 1, Document 59 (P-65) of Polk County, Iowa dated for filing 24 April 1869 by his widow, Lucy A. Stewart. This Last Will and Testament was written as follows: "In the name of God, Amen, I William Stewart of Camp Township of the County of Polk and State of Iowa being of sound mind and memory; and considering the uncertainity of this frail and transitory life do therefore make, ordain, publish and declare this to be my last will and testament. That is to say, First: after all my lawful debts are paid and discharged, the residence of my personal property I give, bequeath and dispose of as follows, to wit: To my beloved wife the Span of Mules and Harness to hold as her separate property while she may think fit to dispose of them for the benefit of the children, also one Cow, one braking Plow, the corn planter and harrow, this entry property to be hers during the time she remains my widow, then to ________ to the children, to my sons John H. Stewart and William M. Stewart, one of the _________ and one cow a piece; to my son Granville H. Stewart the horse called Bill; to my son Richard M. Stewart the two year old colt which he claims, and to the four younger children Mary E. Stewart, Eliza E. Stewart, Albert R. Stewart and Isabella F. Stewart I give said one hundred dollars each when they become of age; and I

Lucy Ann DAVIS was born 1819 in Kentucky. She died 1876 in Iowa. Lucy married William STUART on 1838.
The Last Will and Testament of Lucy A. Stewart was recorded to all whom it may concern at some point prior to the end of her life. In part it read: "I Lucy Ann Stewart now living in Camp Township, Polk County, Iowa being of sound mind and mindfull of the uncertainities of life, and the certainties of death do hereby make and ordain this as my last will and testament, that is to say:
1st: I desire and direct that all my just debts and funeral expenses shall be paid by my executor herein after named.
2nd: I give, devise and bequeath to three of my children hereinafter named to wit to my two sons Richard Mort Stewart and Albert ______ Stewart and to my youngest daughter Isabela Francis STewart, all of my household goods and furniture and all of the balance of my personal property and money that I now own, and all of my personal property and money that I may own at the time of my death after payng my just debts and funeral expenses as above provided for. Said personal property to be equally divided between said three children, share and share alike.
3rd: I do hereby nominate and appoint my son Richard Mort Stewart my sole Executor for the purpose of carrying out the provisions of this will."
It appears that she set her hand to this will on the 8 February 1876 although the copy of the document is not clearly readable for this date.

From his obituary which is in the possession of Linda Stewart, we learn that in 1865 he moved from Polk Co., Iowa to Richardson Co., Nebraska, then back to Iowa in 1866, then returned to Verdon in 1869. He owned the J.H. Stewart and Sons Red Livery Barn in Verdon and was also a farmer.

BIOGRAPHY: In the History of Polk Co., Iowa we find a biographical sketch that reads as follows: "STEWART, J.B. - Farmer, section 11, P.O. Vandalia. Was born in Christian County, Illinois. February 3, 1843, and when three years of age his parents came to this county, settling here in 1846. Since that time he has lived here with the exception of eleven years that he lived in Nebraska. He returned to this county in the fall of 1879. Has held the office of constable. Was married in this county to Miss I.S. Foutch in 1866. She is a native of Illinois. They have a family of five children: H.S., Mary E., Lucy E., Maggie D., and Emma B. Mr Stewart owns one hundred and fifty-six and a half acres of land."
