The Kappa Phi Club, born in a Kansas Sunday School, has grown and spread from coast to coast. It has served as a Christian sisterhood for hundreds of college women, and provided valuable training to present-day church workers at home and abroad. At the National Council of Chapters at Scarritt College in 1973, a second chapter award was established. Named in honor of Mrs. Gordon B. Thompson, the Thompson trophy is awarded at each Council to the chapter maintaining the highest quality in all phases of program and membership. The Alpha Sigma Chapter was formed on the West Virginia Wesleyan College campus in 1958. Currently, there are 61 sisters in the chapter. We meet every Sunday at 7:00 pm in the Kappa Phi room, located in the basement of Benedum. The Kappa Phi Club is a Women's Christian Service Organization and encourages spiritual growth and active participation in the church and community through four program areas: worship, study, service, and fellowship. Alpha Sigma actively participates in each of these areas: Service - Alpha Sigma participates in various service projects, such as a Halloween Bash at a local youth center, Domestic Violence Awareness, and Christmas on Campus. Sisterhood - Various events are held throughout the year to bond with one another, including a Big Sis/Little Sis program and other social activities. Worship - A worship program is implemented at every chapter meeting. Study - Study is integrated into every worship program. Small bible study groups also exist outside of normal meeting times. |
