Juker Ju52
The Junkers Ju52 was the most famous German transport plane during the second world war. It was first designed as a passenger airliner by Ernst Zindel in 1932 but was more suited for the use in the new Luftwaffe.
The Ju52 was nicknamed Tante Ju ( Aunt JU ) by German and allied troops. It saw its first combat mission during the Spanish civil war and served as a transport plane and a bomber. While many Ju52 were bombing Madrid during the Spanish civil war , many other of the m were being used as an airliner in Europe. during the Spanish civil war the Ju52 was also used to drop paratroopers.
during the war it was extensively used by the Germans in almost all Theaters. losses were high due to very low speed (250km/h) compared to enemy fighter planes. 5214 units were manufactured troughout the war, and most of them were destroyed. after the war some countries manufactured the Ju52 in limited numbers. The Ju52 remiand in the swiss airforce until 1980s
